Oooooo Craigslist you strike again.
Some folks in Tampa Bay thought they could get away with doing some unlicensed contracting work by posting on Craigslist and seeing what work they could pick up…
…that is until they were stung by the police.
Reading further in the article it even says that one of the guys actually was licensed, but didn’t have the proper workers comp in order to do that job.
This whole article though brings up a good point about selecting a contractor through trustworthy means. I have no problems with Craigslist because you can get some really cool stuff on there for pretty cheap, but I don’t think major improvements to your house should be on that list.
Whenever you are looking into hiring a new contractor you should always look into your cities BBB in order to find names and grades. This way you will be assured that your contractor owns a reputable business and his chances of running off with your money will dwindle.
However if you do need that extra bit of protection use Safepact.com’s SurePay services and guarantee that your contractor won’t get paid until you are 100% happy.
Everybody build safe out there!
