So a couple days ago I asked you all to read this story online and go on Facebook to tell me what your thoughts on it were, what I would think about it, and what was done right and wrong.
Like with most bad contractor stories the crux of the issue was with money. I am gonna go ahead and say that the client was pretty well at fault for paying $2000 right off the bat. He never talks about his contract at all (was there even one?) and says that he paid 1000 of it up front and another 1000 for matierals (!!!!). That’s a pretty hefty amount for a client to pay for any job, much less one where you are hiring a contractor to do the work for you.
The writer of the story even says that after the second time that the contractor requested money (red flag numero dos) he talked about a split pay and paying it the way he should have from the beginning.
I’m gonna go ahead and say that I disagree with him when he says “NEVER pay advance for ANYTHING.” because there are probably things that you are going to pay in advance for and it’s usually par for the course to have some sort of down payment. That amount, however, was kinda ridiculous.
Congrats to all who knew the answer to the question. Stay tuned for more little games like this because I think they’re fun and maybe we might have a contest next time?????
Everybody build safe out there!!
